Testosterone is a hormone that does a lot more that just promote a healthy sex drive. The hormone affects several other factors in your health, including body fat, muscle mass, bone density, red blood cell count and mood. Men naturally start losing some of their testosterone when they hit their 30s or 40s. A more rapid decline in testosterone levels may indicate a problem called Low Testosterone (Low T).
Common symptoms of low T include low energy, erectile dysfunction (ED), changes in libido, decreased sperm count, depression or anxiety, and weight gain.
Most people think of testosterone as a male only hormone, but everyone requires a certain level. While males have more testosterone than females, female adrenal glands and ovaries produce small amounts of this hormone. A woman’s testosterone levels naturally change throughout her life, her menstrual cycle, and even at different times of the day. A woman with low testosterone does not contain enough to help produce new blood cells, maintain sex drive, or boost levels of other reproductive hormones.
Symptoms of Low testosterone can cause one or more of the following symptoms in women: Muscle weakness, Fatigue, Lack of Sleep, decreased libido, weight gain, fertility issues, and loss of bone density.
Being obese or having a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, can increase your risk for developing many serious health conditions including high blood pressure (hypertension), high LDL cholesterol, Osteoarthritis, sleep apnea or breathing problems, some cancers, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease to name a few. At JFM we are able to personalize a weight loss plan to help you meet your goals.
